B.Sc. Nursing in Nepal

B.Sc. Nursing is a 4-year bachelor course popular not just in Nepal but throughout the world. Students can pursue BSc nursing in Nepal after completion of +2. Also, students need to take Biology as their major subject for BSc Nursing in Nepal. 

BSc nursing is provided by both private and government nursing colleges in Nepal in affiliation with TU, KU, Purbanchal University, and Pokhara University. 

The colleges have their entrance exams or other provisions to select the students for their BSc Nursing program. Generally, the admission takes place in August/ September (Bhadra) and the classes begin in November (Mangsir)

BSC Nursing prepares students for middle to managerial level positions in health care settings. 

Masters in Nursing in Nepal 

The Masters in Nursing (MN) is a 2-year program offered by colleges under affiliation with Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu University, Purbanchal University, science questions, and Pokhara University. 

For instance, the master in Nursing specializations offered by the Institue of Medicine (IOM) are: 

  • Master of Nursing (Women Health & development)
  • Master of Nursing (Adult Nursing)
  • Master of Nursing (Child Health Nursing)

PhD. Nursing in Nepal

To get enrolled in a PhD, Students must pass Masters in Nursing with at least a second division or equivalent score. One of the college to offer PhD Nursing in Nepal is Maharaj Nursing Campus. PhD Nursing Program at Maharajgunj Nursing Campus is generally 3 years long.

The general requirements to study B.Sc. Nursing in Nepal are: 

  • +2 or equivalent board examination with science (Biology to be precise) passed with 50% aggregate or GPA of 2.4.
  • Alternative to +2: Students with a diploma or PCL certificate from Nepal Examination Board.
  • Entrance examination with a minimum passing score.

The BDS programme consists of four & half years of full time study with one year of compulsory rotating internship. Seven Dental Colleges of Nepal offers Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) course with affiliation from Tribhuvan University. And remianin from KU affilated colleges 

The programme has three major components.

• Integrated basic medical science

• Clinical Medical Science

• Clinical Dental Science

Students will also learn the dental Material Science Community Dentistry and pre-clinical laboratory techniques during first two years of the programme.In the third year and fourth year,students will be exposed to the clinical dentistry itself, which deals with various dental health problems from the essential perspective.Student will learn the essential knowledge, skills and techniques necessary for the practice of dentistry.

Objectives of the Program

On completion of the four and a half year of BDS program, the Dental Graduate should be able to:

  • Demonstrate the understanding of principles and practice of modem dentistry with an in-depth knowledge of structure and functions of human body, normal and in diseases.
  • Develop a holistic approach to the practice of modem dentistry
  • Advance ones own knowledge and skills through higher education via continuing dental education programs and research.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of contemporary knowledge and skills.
  • Possess qualities of a compassionate and socially accountable human being.
  • Discharge job responsibilities with concern and care.
  • Provide immediate management care to life threatening situations by self.
  • Identify common dental health problems, manage them initially, ask opinion from seniors or refer to appropriate health institutions when required.
  • Provide education to people on oral health and health related matters.
  • Participate in immunization and dental health programs and in health camps.
  • Communicate well with patient and patient's relatives by explaining matters known and refer them to appropriate persons when matters are not clear to self.
  • Provide all information on matters of management of patients to the patient and the relatives.
  • Identify medico legal dental cases and function as required.
  • Develop a dental health care team-approach and give respect to all the other members of the team.
  • Give due care to children, elder citizens and women.
  • Provide dental health care by becoming aware of the ethos of dental ethics.

 

ELIGIBILITY

  • Passed 10+2 Science or equivalent (with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) with 50% aggregate in total marks or CGPA 2.4 OR
  • Secured the Percentage equivalent to the above eligibility in regards to the certificate level programs (A-Level) with different grading system OR
  • Applicants who have passed the Health Science Proficiency Certificate Level/Diploma (General Medicine, Medical Lab Technology, Ophthalmic Science, Dental Science, Pharmacy, Ayurveda, Radiography, Physiotherapy) containing Physics, Chemistry, and Biology With Certificate of Equivalence to Grade 12 Science program from National Examination Board AND
  • Secured at least 50% aggregate in total marks both in Diploma and the Examination for equivalence AND
  • Registered in Nepal Health Professional council or Nepal Pharmacy Council or Nepal Ayurveda Councils per related educational program.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

Provisions for Admission Process

  1. In order to pass the integrated admission process, a minimum of 50 percent marks should be obtained.

  2. There will be no negative marking for wrong answers.

Candidates who have been successfully selected in the admission process will have to submit the following original and 1/1 photocopy of the following documents to the concerned educational institution at the time of admission.

  1. Certificate of qualification, Transcript and Character Certificate of 10+2 and SLC/SEE or Equivalent.

  2. Copy of Citizenship / Passport.

  3. Admit card of the Entrance Examination.

  4. Documents submitted for reservation.

  5. Certificate of Equivalence for the students with certificates from foreign institutions.

PCL NURSING NEPAL

PCL Nursing in Nepal

PCL nursing is a 3 years nursing program that can be undertaken by students after SEE. The full form of PCL Nursing is “Proficiency Certificate Level in Nursing”. 

 In simple words, PCL Nursing is equivalent to a diploma course where students learn the practicalities of Nursing. 

After completion of the PCL nursing program, students can take a certification of “Registered Nurse” offered by the Nursing Council Nepal (Nepal Nursing Council). This will open up a lot of job opportunities in private as well as government organizations of Nepal. 

In Nepal, there are many private and government colleges that offer PCL nursing. Currently, PCL nursing is taught in Nepal under 3 different boards. 

PCL Nursing affiliated with TU

Both Private and government colleges offer PCL nursing affiliated with TU. Generally, the entrance exam takes place in Bhadra and comprises science questions from Science, English, and mathematics questions. There are both private and public colleges which offer PCL nursing course in Nepal as TU affiliated college and TU constituent campus. 

Students are dictated eligible for admission in PCL Nursing affiliated with TU solely based on the entrance score. 

Also, the requirement of TU-affiliated PCL nursing is - students need to have a 50% or equivalent score in the SEE examination. 

PCL Nursing affiliated with CTEVT

The PCL Nursing affiliated with CTEVT also selects students based on the entrance examination. CTEVT stands for Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training. 

 The entrance, generally, takes place on Bhadra. The academically deserving students get a scholarship. 

Also, the requirement of CTEVT affiliated PCL nursing is - students need to have a 45% or equivalent score in the SEE examination. 

PCL Nursing affiliated with BPKIHS

PCL Nursing affiliated to BP Koirala Institute of Health Science has 40 PCL Nursing seats. Generally, the entrance examination takes place in Shrawan.
