PGIMER Radiology Resident wins prestigious Kakarla Subbarao Gold Medal 2022
Dr. Shritik Devkota, a final year MD student of the Department of Radiodiagnosis, PGI, Chandigarh bagged the prestigious Kakarla Subbarao Gold Medal 2022 for his research paper titled "Comparison of Ultra-low dose CT and Standard-dose CT chest in post-COVID-19 pneumonia: a pilot study". He did this research under the guidance of Dr. Mandeep Garg, an eminent chest radiologist of PGI.
The competition was held on 13th November at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences at Hyderabad and is aimed at inspiring young radiology PG students in the field of research.
Kakarla Subbarao Gold Medal Competition is held annually since 2000 in honour of Padmashree Dr. Kakarla Subbarao, a renowned Indian radiologist. This coveted competition is open to all the students across the country who are pursuing post-graduation in Radiology. After securitizing the submitted applications, the ten best papers are selected for oral presentation. Finally, the Gold medal winner is chosen based on the novelty of the research, its scientific content, and the presentation skills of the student.
Dr. Daneshwari Kalage, another final year Radiology resident of PGI was awarded a commendation certificate for securing 3rd position in the same competition for her research entitled “characterization of gall bladder wall thickening by use of Multiparametric MRI,” which was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Pankaj Gupta of PGI. While Dr. Priya Taprania from AIIMS, Jodhpur got the commendation certificate by securing the 2nd position.
Prof. M.S. Sandhu, Head, of the Department of Radiodiagnosis, PGI said, “It is a matter of great pride that our PG residents are winning laurels for the department and the institute at the national level.”
