Kudos to the team of ER and ICU teams -Case of Cobra Bite in Lumbini Province Hospital (Dr Shree Ram Panti)
She arrived at the Emergency department (Lumbini Province Hospital)with a history of a Cobra bite, her life hanging by a thread. When I found her, she was collapsed, unresponsive, and teetering on the edge of death. The sight of her lifeless body sent a shiver down my spine, but there was no time to lose.
We immediately started CPR, our hands working rhythmically, desperately trying to coax her heart back to life. For five grueling minutes, we pressed on, willing her to return to us. We administered an injection of adrenaline, hoping it would be the spark she needed. Finally, her pulse returned, faint but there. She was revived.
I quickly intubated her, ensuring she could breathe, and rushed her to the Intensive Care Unit. For 20 long hours, she lay there with a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score of 3, showing no signs of consciousness. The room was heavy with anticipation and silent prayers as we monitored her closely, hoping for a miracle.
Then, a small flicker of hope. She began to respond to pain, a tiny but significant sign that her body was fighting back. Her resilience was astounding. After 48 hours, we carefully extubated her, and she took her first breaths on her own. It was a moment of pure triumph, a testament to her strength and will to survive.
Day by day, she grew stronger. Her pale cheeks regained color, and her eyes, once vacant, sparkled with life again.
Today, on her 5th day of admission as she prepares to leave the ICU, she smiles—a radiant, life-affirming smile that lights up the room. Her journey from the brink of death to recovery is nothing short of miraculous. Seeing her walk out of the hospital, full of life and hope, fills my heart with an overwhelming sense of satisfaction and gratitude.
